NATIONAL GELBVIEH SALE SETS NEW BREED RECORD

A tremendous crowd gathered prior to the sale to evaluate the strongest set of Gelbvieh genetics ever offered at the National Gelbvieh Sale. The National Gelbvieh Sale was the highest averaging Continental breed sale at the 2001 National Western Stock Show.

The high selling lot of the day, commanding $51,000, was the Breeder's Choice Gelbvieh Bull Futurity Runner-up, BTI Red Alert 2077K. This consignment from Beartooth International of Columbus, Mont., is a 2/27/00 red, polled purebred son sired by former National Champion Bull, SLC Freedom 178F ET and out of BTI Lady Granite 2001E ET, one of the best cows ever bred at Beartooth. Full possession and quarter semen interest sold to Jon Beastrom, Pierre, S.D.; Lensegrav Gelbvieh, Meadow, S.D.; and Ellison Gelbvieh, Lemmon, S.D.

The next high selling lot was the Breeder's Choice Bull Futurity Champion consigned by J.J. Boehler of Orleans, Neb. XXB Drew 565K sold for $42,500. Drew is a 1/7/00, homozygous black, double polled purebred sired by GKT Boo Boo 155E and out of an EVE Mr. Beau Jangles 308B cow. Possession sold to Tara Ranch, Concord, N.C.

The high selling female of the day brought a bid of $20,000. MLH Cowgirl K31 is a 1/22/00, homozygous black, multiple polled purebred consigned by Goldrush Genetics of Guide Rock, Neb. She is the full sister to last year's $28,000 bull, MLH Cowboy J14. Cowgirl is sired by MLLC M/L Advantage and out of MLH Miss Goldrush D26. Bar IV Livestock of Cold Springs, Ky., and Red Maple Gelbvieh of Jamestown, Kan., were the buyers of this donor prospect.

The National Champion Female, consigned by Judd Ranch of Pomona, Kan., was the next high seller. JRI Ms. Pld Frontier 253J60 is a 2/26/99, red, multiple polled purebred and is out of SLC Freedom 178F ET and goes back to TAU Shaker 20Z on the bottom side of her pedigree. She sold bred to JEB Polled Gizmo 17Z for a late January calf. Frontier sold to Twin Ash Farm of Lexington, Ky., for $19,000.

EGL Casey J129, consigned by Eagle Pass Ranch of Highmore, S.D., was the next high seller. This 3/4/99, homozygous black, polled purebred is sired by ELK Ace Ventura 234F, and sold bred to JCGR Bar GT Paradigm 2H. She sold to J&D Kerstiens of Jasper, Ind., for $11,500.

WHIT's Love Child 009K consigned by Partisover Ranch and Whitney Daniel of Colbert, Ga., brought a bid of $10,500. Love Child was the Champion Bred and Owned Female at the 2000 National Junior Gelbvieh Show and was shown successfully at several other shows. This 1/3/00, red, polled purebred is also sired by SLC Freedom 178F ET and sold to Twin Ash Farm of Lexington, Ky.

Rounding out the high sellers list was JDKG Vanna ET consigned by J&D Kerstiens of Jasper, Ind. This 2/10/00 black, polled purebred is a daughter of WAM Stonewall 42H and out of the 1999 National Champion Female, Ms. Blk Leading Lady. Vanna sold to Eagle Pass Ranch of Highmore, S.D., for $10,000.
