KS There is nothing better for youth to learn career skills to be successful in life than a Junior National! This is why Salers junior enthusiasts across the country braved traveling in hundred degree heat to show their Salers Pride on the Prairie at the 2006 American Salers Junior National, July 12-15 at the Kansas State Fairgrounds, in Hutchinson, Kansas. This year's event was packed full of junior and family fun events for everyone!
The competition in the barn was as hot as it was outside on show day, Saturday, July 15. Kolby Burch from Fort Hays University had the challenge of judging the tough competition that paraded by him from eighteen states. Below are the 2006 ASJA Junior National Champions that Burch awarded:

At the end of the cattle show, the two top showmen were awarded the most highlighted awards of the whole show; Grand Champion Showman won an aluminum blocking chute and the Reserve Showman won an aluminum show box. Those who wanted to participate in this contest had to pre-enter, fit and show their own animal. Participants were judged throughout the cattle show on their fitting and showing skills. The top twelve were selected to compete in the finals.

Winning an Andes clippers was the highlight of the No-Fit Showmanship contests. Participants exhibited their no-fit animals in their division where they were judged on showmanship and answers for questions asked by the judge. The Grand Champion Showman of each division won an Andes clippers and the Reserve Showman won a director's chair.
