Camp Cooley-Alabama
Ranch, will hold a field day on October 7th at their Johnston Farms, Letohatchee,
Alabama location. The day's schedule is packed with learning opportunities and
profitability tips.
Registration for the day will be held from 9:00 to 9:30, followed by opening
remarks by Ray Johnston, owner of Johnston Farms; Joe Fuller, Camp Cooley vice-president
marketing and customer service and Johnny Vines, Alabama Brangus Breeders Association
president.
Craig Green, Camp Cooley Genetic Accelerator director and Mark Eagerton, Camp
Cooley-Alabama herdsman, will provide an overview of the Alabama program. This
will be followed by a presentation on “Hitting the Specified Target as Producers,” from
Dr. Chris Kerth, Auburn University associate professor of meat science.
A panel discussion will highlight the morning schedule as Johnny Morrow, Tuscaloosa,
Alabama; Billy Younkin, partner, Mid States Stockyards, Letohatchee, Alabama;
Mike Vann, Rocking V Cattle Co., Pikes Road, Alabama and Bill Pendergrass,
Camp Cooley PREP manager will provide insight about “Getting Paid for Hitting
the Targets.” Michelle Elmore, Alabama extension animal scientist/beef cattle
improvement will moderate the panel.
After lunch, Mike Davis, regional forage agronomist with Auburn University will
visit with folks about managing forages for greater profit.
The final segment of the educational program will address the topic, “Bulls and
How the Best buys are the Easiest to Sell.” This panel will be moderated by Fuller
and will include John Maurer, Maurer Sale Services, Bryan, Texas; Fred McCreary,
Brangus breeder, Evergreen, Alabama; Larry Fitzgerald, South Mississippi Brangus
Experiment Station facilities coordinator and research associate.
Concluding the day's activities is the Alabama Junior Heifer Show and tours of
Camp Cooley-Alabama pastures and cattle.
In addition, those in attendance will be able to register for $1,000 bull credit
towards a purchase at the Camp Cooley Alabama's Bull Sale, December 9th in
Letohatchee.
