WINNERS NAMED AT 2007 WESTERN NUGGET NATIONAL HEREFORD SHOW

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The 2007 Western Nugget National Hereford Show in Reno, Nev., Nov. 1-Dec. 1 showcased 243 Herefords during the two-day event. Kevin Hafner, Yukon, Okla., judged 116 polled and 127 horned cattle.

Hoffman Herefords, McArthur, Calif., and partners dominated the horned and polled shows, exhibiting three of the four grand champions at the 2007 Western Nugget event. Hoffman and Lauren Schiermiester-White, Buffalo, Wyo., teamed up to exhibit the grand champion horned female, H Kathy 668 ET, by C –S Pure Gold 98170. The spring yearling heifer was reserve overall in 2006 as a calf. The champion spring heifer calf, H Evelyn 7011, followed in the reserve grand position in the horned show. Evelyn is a BR Wildfire 2153 daughter and was exhibited by Opperman Cattle Co., Sandy, Ore., and Hubman Cattle Co., Medford, Ore.

In the polled female show, Ankony Land Inc., Clarkesville, Ga., and Hoffman Herefords showed the champion spring yearling and grand champion overall. Ankony SB Lady H 90S ET by HB STAR Battle Ground 2013 was also reserve at the 2007 National Western. Following Lady and capturing the reserve title was Garrett Floyd, Wink, Texas, with his champion spring heifer calf, CRR 587 Amber 787 by CRR 133 Avalanche 587.

The bull competition heated up on Dec. 1 and walking away with the purple banner in the horned show was Brooke Brumley, Orovada, Nev., with her bred-and-owned yearling bull, BF Elko 647S ET, by BR Moler ET. Hoffman Herefords; W4 Ranch, Morgan, Texas; Hi View Ranch, Cleburne, Texas; and George Ochsner and Sons, Torrington, Wyo.; claimed the reserve grand champion horned bull title with their junior calf, GO L18 Excel T15, by GO Excel L18.

The grand champion polled bull, H Easy Deal 609 ET, is no stranger to the winner's circle having won reserve at the Western Nugget in 2006. He is a BR DM Channing ET son and was shown by Lee and Diane Hutchens Family Trust, Fallon, Nev., and Hoffman Herefords. The grand champion spring bull calf, UPS JT Neon 7136 1ET, received the judge's nod for the reserve overall title. He is a GH Neon 17N son and owned by Upstream Ranch, Taylor, Neb., and Adams Hirsche Herefords, High River, Alta.

At the conclusion of the horned show, Mrnak West, Gardnerville, Nev., secured the premier exhibitor and get of sire awards. Largent & Sons, Kaycee, Wyo., won the best six head title and Colyer Herefords, Bruneau, Idaho, captured the premier breeder banner. Weimer Cattle Co., Susanville, Calif., had a successful show, earning premier breeder and exhibitor awards along with the best six head honors in the polled division.
