An annual highlight of the Red Angus activities which coincide with the National Western Stock Show (NWSS) in Denver, Colorado is the Red Angus Brain Trust. Brain Trust 2007 is scheduled for Sunday, January 14th at 1:00 pm at the Doubletree on Quebec Street in Denver, this educational seminar has become a favorite think tank featuring interesting topics as well as some of the best and brightest minds in the beef industry.
This year's Brain Trust will focus on the added value available to producers through source and age verification. While source verification continues to be a hot topic and is at least partially responsible for driving value in both feeder cattle and fed cattle, the Red Angus Feeder Calf Certification Program is now in its second decade of providing USDA approved Source Verification. During Brain Trust, Red Angus Marketing Programs staff will explain the Red Angus Feeder Calf Certification Program, (FCCP) the beef industry's first process verified program, which now includes USDA approved process verified claims of:
* Traceability to at least 50% Angus Bloodlines
* Source Verification to Ranch of Origin
* Group Age Verification.
Representatives from all segments of the beef supply chain will be on hand to express their views on “What Source and Age Verification is worth to them”. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from and ask questions to:
* Marcine Mouldenhaur, Cargill Meat Solutions
* Dale Moore, owner/manager Cattleman's Choice Feedyard
* Jim Kelly, Superior Livestock Auction.
Brain Trust is one of many activities slated for the 2007 NWSS in Denver. For a complete listing, contact the Red Angus Association of America at 940/387-3502 or on the web at www.redangus. org.
