WINTER STORMS DEVASTATE THE HIGH PLAINS: NCBA, STATE CATTLEMEN'S ASSOCIATIONS PROVIDE AID

DENVER (January 5, 2007) In response to a rash of devastating winter storms in the High Plains, the National Cattlemen's Beef Association (NCBA) has launched a disaster relief effort for cattlemen. The effort will be similar to NCBA's recent hurricane relief fund, which helped thousands of cattlemen recover from historic storms.

Thousands of family farm and ranch operations in the High Plains region have been devastated by recent snow and ice storms. Many remain without power and other utilities, and roads are impassable in many areas due to heavy snow, icy conditions and downed utility lines. In several states, the national guard has been tossing bundles of hay from helicopters to help cattle immobilized by high snow drifts and dangerous winter conditions in Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Texas.

NCBA is joining forces with state cattlemen's associations across the nation to provide assistance through the National Cattlemen's Foundation (NCF). Every dollar contributed will directly assist families struggling to keep their farms and ranches operating under these difficult conditions, with NCBA covering all administrative costs. In conjunction with NCF, state cattlemen's associations in the High Plains region will manage distribution of funds donated.

Credit card contributions can be made by calling 1-866-BEEF-USA (1-866-233-3872) with Visa, MasterCard, and American Express cards accepted. Online contributions can also be made by going to the NCF Web site at www.nationalcattlemensfoundation.org, then selecting Make a Contribution on the left-hand side of the screen. Donations are tax deductible.

Contributions by check can be made payable to National Cattlemen's Foundation, with disaster relief included on the memo line. These checks can be mailed to:

National Cattlemen's Foundation
9110 East Nichols Ave., Suite 300
Centennial, CO 80112

Those able to donate hay, trucking services, or equipment should contact Courtney Pollock of NCBA at 303-850-3393.
