SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA ANGUS ASSOCIATION HOLDS ANNUAL SALE

The annual Southwest Virginia Angus Finest Sale was held on December 9, 2006 at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Abingdon,Va .There was 41 registered Angus bulls sold that averaged $1,755 also 42 lots of registered Angus females averaged $1,616. In addition, 14 commercial bred heifers averaged $1,071.The top selling bull was a consignment of Matney Angus Farm of Cedar Bluff, Va.He is a son of G A R Expectation 4915.He had a 205 day adj. wt. of 685 lbs.Gain on test of 4.37 lbs. /144 ratio and a 365 day adj. wt of 1297 lbs/121 ratio.This bull [15395249] sold for $3,700 to Sam Rankin, Jefferson City TN.The second top selling bull was a consignment of Freddie Dotson/ Dotson Angus Farm of Clintwood, VA..He is a son of Rito 6I6 of 4B20 6807 [15305862] out of a 1407 dam. He sold for $3,300 to William Johnson of Gate City, VA Third top-selling bull was a consignment of Waddle Angus Farm of Saltville, Va... He is a son of Bon View New Design 878 [15189462] that sold for $2,900 to Smithfield of Rosedale,Va.Fourth top - selling bull was a consignment of Mullins Angus Farm of Clintwood, Va.He is a son of S A F Strategy 9015 [15118814] that sold for $2,850 to Donnie Fullen of Saltville, Va.Volume buyer in the bull division, who bought three bulls was William Osborne of Tannersville,Va..Nine bulls sold into Tazewell County and six bulls sold into Russell County.

The top selling bred cow was a consignment of, Spring Valley Farm/Kevin Moore of Abingdon,Va, she is a three year old daughter [14648506] of Bon View New Design 208 that was bred to W A R Alliance 9126 6006.She sold for $2,650 to Dale& Cathy Williams of Elizabethton, TN.The second top selling cow was also a consignment of Spring Valley Farm/Kevin Moore of Abingdon, Va, she is a six year old daughter [15150500 ] of G A R Precision 1680 that was bred to G A R Expectation 4915. She sold for $1,650 to Bud Phillips of Dickenson County.The top selling bred heifer [15413192] is a daughter of Bon View New Design 208 bred to W A R Alliance 9126 6006. She was a consignment of Double M Farm/ H. J. & Christa Denney of Dublin, Va. and sold for $2,150 to 606 Angus/ John Warren of Bland, Va.. The second-top selling heifer was a consignment of Greenwood Angus Farm/ Mark Myers of Marion, Va. She is a daughter [15505511] of Big Elban of Graham W 47689 bred to L D Redirect 11 she sold for $1,800 to Lawson Farm of Ewing, Va. The volume buyers of the registered females were Lawson Farms of Ewing,Va.,Don Matney of Richlands, Va.,Jeff Hagy of Wytheville, Va. and Carey McKain of Abingdon,Va.

The top selling commercial bred heifers were a consignment of Greenwood Angus Farm/ Mark Myers Marion, Va.They were Angus cross heifers bred to calving ease Angus bulls. They sold as a group of two for $1,100 to Bud Phillips of Dickenson County.W. C. Kelley of Chilhowie was the volume buyer of these heifers buying 8 heifers for an average of $1,069.

There were 51 different buyers from the108 people who registered for a bidder's number. They were from Kentucky, Virginia, Tennessee, and North Carolina. Smith Reasor of Rural Retreat, Va. was the Auctioneer and George T. Johnstone Jr.of Wytheville, Va.was the Sale Coordinator.The sale was sponsored by the Southwest Virginia Angus Association.The next event for the SWVAA is the� Double Header Sale� on April 28, 2007 at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Abingdon, Va,where 50 yearling performance tested Angus bulls and Registered Angus females will be offered for sale.
