GELBVIEH AND BALANCER PEN BULL WINNERS NAMED IN DENVER

Chan Phillips of Maysville, Ky., had the job of sorting nearly 20 pens of Gelbvieh and Balancer bulls during the 2007 National Western Stock Show Gelbvieh and Balancer Pen Bull Show. Phillips complimented the exhibitors on the quality of cattle representing the breed.

      Many-time winner, Judd Ranch, Inc., of Pomona, Kan., earned the Grand Champion Pen of Three Gelbvieh Bulls banner. Their pen first won a tough January-February 2006 Class. The Judd Ranch bulls posted an average frame score of 6.7, a 39.2 average scrotal measurement and a 1,200-pound average weight.

      Eagle Pass Ranch of Highmore, S.D., earned the Reserve Champion Pen of Three Gelbvieh Bulls banner. The Eagle Pass pen had a 39.1 scrotal average, 6.7 frame score, and 1,189-pound average weight.

      In the Pen of Five Gelbvieh Bull competition, Judd Ranch Inc., and Eagle Pass Ranch again swept the top spots. Judd Ranch, Inc., earned the Grand Champion Pen of Five honors with their January and February pen of bulls. The bulls had a 38.1 average scrotal, 6.4 frame, and 1,128-pound average.

      Eagle Pass Ranch of Highmore, S.D., earned the reserve champion banner with their bulls that averaged 36.8 scrotal, 6.5 frame score, and 1,110-pound average.

      Eagle Pass Ranch struck again, this time earning the Grand Champion Pen of Three Balancer Bulls award for the 2007 National Western with its April Balancer pen. The Eagle Pass Ranch pen posted a 32.5 scrotal average, 6.0 frame score, and 927-pound average.

      Taubenheim Gelbvieh of Amherst, Neb., took the Reserve Champion Pen of Three Balancer Bulls banner for the third year in a row. The Taubenheim's January-February 2006 pen posted a 42.3 scrotal average, 6.7 frame score, and 1,265 average weight.
