Judges Greg and Brad McCurry of Sedgwick, Kan., congratulated showmanship participants at the American Gelbvieh Junior Association (AGJA) Gateway Classic on the depth of quality in each age division. The Heart of America Gelbvieh Association and Heart of America Junior Gelbvieh Association co-hosted the event with the American Gelbvieh Junior Association, which 150 plus contestants and their families attended July 8-13 at the Missouri State Fairgrounds in Sedalia, Mo.
Two Nebraska members swept the top spots in Junior Showmanship. Sydney Taubenheim, daughter of Mike and Renee of Amherst, Neb., took top honors. Kodi Gehl, daughter of Greg and Susan Gehl of Ericson, Neb., earned Reserve Junior Showman. Rounding out the top ten in Junior Showmanship were: 3. Callahan Grund, Kansas; 4. Tanner Aherin, Kansas; 5. Rachel Ibach, Nebraska; 6. Emma McDonald, Missouri; 7. Tiana Garcia, Colorado; 8. Meredith Clark, Kansas; 9. Kendra Schafer, Minnesota; 10. Kacie Jurgens, Nebraska.
In the Intermediate Division, Ashley Skeels of Boerne, Texas, took top honors in a tough age division. Ashley is the daughter of Howard and Bette Skeels. Kaisha Jurgens of Miller, Neb., earned Reserve Intermediate Showman honors. Kaisha is the daughter of Brad and LeAnn Jurgens. The remaining top ten showman were: 3. Grace Hammer, Kansas; 4. Kirstin Winchester, Missouri; 5. Van Tucker, Kansas; 6. Justin Teeter, North Carolina; 7. Justin Taubenheim, Nebraska; 8. Tanner Taubenheim, Nebraska; 9. Kevin Cavalli, Kansas; 10. McKinley Worley, Missouri.
Emily Griffiths of Kendallville, Ind., earned Champion Senior Showman honors. Emily is the daughter of Carl and Rebecca Griffiths. Taking home Reserve Senior Showman honors was Tahanee Embry of Priddy, Texas. Tahanee is the daughter of Joe and Ellen Embry. Rounding out the top ten in Senior Showmanship were: 3. Jared Ruter, Illinois; 4. Nate Munger, South Dakota; 5. Alison Baker, Indiana; 6. Travis Arp, Wisconsin; 7. Dustin Volek, South Dakota; 8. Kaycie Shearer, Kansas; 9. Nikki Hojer, South Dakota; 10. Kevin Hightower, Kansas.
