NATIONAL JUNIOR GELBVIEH SHOW HELD IN MISSOURI

The American Gelbvieh Junior Association (AGJA) teamed up with the Heart of America Gelbvieh Association and Heart of America Junior Gelbvieh Association to host the AGJA Gateway Classic. The week of contests and cattle shows was held at the Missouri State Fairgrounds in Sedalia. Jary Douglas of Athens, Ga., evaluated the Gelbvieh Female Show, while Greg and Brad McCurry of Sedgwick, Kansas, judged the Gelbvieh Bred & Owned Bull Show and the Market Steer Show, as well as the Balancer Female Show and Showmanship.

Dakota Fowler of Albany, Texas, made the most of her first trip to the National Junior Gelbvieh Show by winning Grand Champion Gelbvieh Female with her entry, JDPD Morning Flower 207S. Dakota's heifer is an October 10, 2006 daughter of PMG Pegasus 01P and first earned Champion Senior Heifer Calf honors.

Emily Griffiths of Kendallville, Ind., earned Reserve Grand Champion Gelbvieh female honors with her Champion Cow-Calf Pair. GGGR 3G Cowgirl Jackie 948J is an 8-year-old cow with a January 2007 heifer calf at side. The heifer calf also earned Champion Bred & Owned Junior Heifer Calf honors on her own.

Griffiths struck again winning Grand Champion Bred & Owned Female honors with GGGE 3G Cowgirl Sierra 605S, a January 15, 2006 daughter of SLC Freedom 178F ET. This is the second year in a row for Emily to win Bred & Owned Champion honors.

Dustin Volek of Highmore, S.D., won Reserve Grand Champion Bred & Owned Female honors with VLK Remedy S44 ET. This female is a March 12, 2006 daughter of SLC Freedom out of former National Champion Female, ELK CK Jewel 216M.

Emily Griffiths earned top honors in the Bred & Owned Gelbvieh Bull Show. Her entry, GGGE 3G Shakedown 655S ET is a March 2006 son of SLC Freedom 178F ET.

Sydney Wilkinson of Model, Colo., earned Reserve Champion Bred & Owned Bull honors with SYD Stampede 6122S ET. Stampede is a May 2006 son of BTI Extra 2106K ET.

In the Market Steer Show, Rachel Ibach of Sumner, Neb., earned Grand Champion honors with her 1,255-pound steer named Cowboy. Grace Hammer of Wallace, Kan., and her 1,335-pound steer Lightning earned Reserve Champion Market Steer honors.
