BRANGUS HONOR SHOW HEIFER, BULL AND SIRE OF THE YEAR

The International Brangus® Breeders Association (IBBA) recently announced the 2006 Show Heifer and Show Bull of the Year honors, as well as the Show Sire of the Year. The coveted awards were given during activities at the combined National Junior Brangus Show and the International Brangus Futurity, recently held in West Monroe, La.

The show animal of the year awards are an accumulation of points tallied from placing in the four national shows, which include the Futurity, International Show in Houston, National Show of Merit and Western National Show. Points are given to each animal based on their placing in class as well as additional points awarded for being selected a division champion or reserve champion and Grand or Reserve Grand Champion. The animal totaling the most points at the complete of the circuit receives the award.

Sankey's Ms Caliente 108R, owned by Katy White, Red Rock, Arizona and bred by Sankey's 6N Ranch, Council Grove, Kansas received the Heifer of the Year honor. She was named the 2006 Brangus Futurity, and 2007 Houston International Grand Champion as well as Reserve Division Champion at the 2006 National Show of Merit and Western National. The honored female was sired by Sankey's Revolution 860K.

JMH Mr Update 948P3, who was bred and owned by Jillian Harris, Navasota, Texas and co-owned with Tiner Family Cattle of Hempstead was named the Show Bull of the Year. He was the 2006 Futurity Champion, and 2006 Western National Reserve Grand Champion. He also posted class wins at the 2007 International Show and the 2006 National Show of Merit. He was sired by CCR Update 314C.

The Show Sire of the Year award is an accumulation of points tallied from progeny placing in the four national shows. Points are given to each animal based on their placing in class, as well as additional points awarded for being selected a division champion or reserve champion and Grand or Reserve Grand Champion. The sire accumulating the most points at the end of the show season is crowned with the Show Sire of the Year.

Odyssey of JLS, owned by JLS International, Robertsdale, Alabama and Devine, Texas. He is sired by Mr Bar J Revenue 161K5, who also has won the title three times. Odyssey progeny had ten class wins, eight division or reserve division winners and four overall champions during this point period.
