OVER 10,000 PART OF LIMOUSIN INVENTORY MANAGEMENT

Nearly 10,400 spring-calving and 2,700 fall-calving cows in 138 herds now are part of the Limousin Inventory Management System (LIMS). Forty-four Limousin breeders – some of whom have combined herds – joined the North American Limousin Foundation's (NALF's) whole-herd data-reporting system from Feb. 16, 2007, to Feb. 15, 2008.

Beginning with calves born in 2006, active NALF members have had the option of conducting business using the Web-based LIMS. Those choosing to do so pay an annual, per cow fee and, in turn, are entitled to record, register and transfer the cow's calf for that year.

LIMS helps NALF members lower their costs of doing business with their association. At the same time, they contribute more complete and comprehensive production information that leads to truer expected progeny differences (EPDs).

Active NALF members enroll in LIMS by first accessing their secured, members-only portions of the NALF Web site (www.nalf.org/members). Once logged in to their own member sites, they simply click the LIMS button at the top of any page to begin the sign-up process.

Limousin breeders wanting to enroll fall-calving cows in LIMS must do so by July 15. Enrollments for spring-calving cows are due Feb. 15. Members can find more LIMS information in the “Limousin Library” section of the NALF Web site (www.nalf.org) or request literature from the NALF office, (303) 220-1693.
