Kansas City, MO — A standing-room only crowd looked on as Hereford enthusiasts bid on the 2008 Hereford Youth Foundation of America (HYFA) Female, Friday, January 18 in the Beef Palace Auction Arena at the National Western Stock Show in Denver, Colo. Ken and Carolyn Larson, De Soto, TX; Jim and Judy Blin along with Randy and Deb Blin, Independence, Iowa made the final bid and purchased the foundation female for $100,000, setting a new record.

Star Lake Cattle Ranch, Skiatook, Okla. donated STAR 29F Bethany 2T ET as the first HYFA Foundation Female to sell in Denver. The unique package ensures that the HYFA will continue to reap the benefits of this foundation female for years to come. Star Lake Cattle Ranch offered to care for and manage this female at Star Lake for the next five years to generate ongoing revenue for the HYFA. All natural progeny will be owned 100% by the HYFA, with Star Lake providing the care and marketing. All embryo progeny will be owned 50% by the HYFA and 50% by Star Lake. All proceeds generated from this female and her resulting progeny will go toward the HYFA $5 Million Capital Endowment Campaign which focuses on Hereford youth scholarship, education and leadership endeavors.

“Remarkable strides by the Hereford Youth Foundation of America in its three primary areas of support will be realized and achieved as a result of the generosity by Hereford breeders Star Lake Cattle Ranch, Ken and Carolyn Larson, Jim and Judy Blin and Randy and Deb Blin through their respective roles in support of the 2008 Hereford Youth Foundation Female,” says Chris Stephens, director for the Hereford Youth Foundation of America. “The support given by all Hereford breeders, regardless of the level of participation, will empower each and every one of us to continue to raise the bar in support of the Hereford Youth Foundation of America by fostering a life changing experience in the lives of thousands of National Junior Hereford Association members across the country.

The Hereford Youth Foundation of America is a 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit. Its mission is to support scholarship, education and leadership activities within the Hereford breed. For more information about the HYFA contact Chris Stephens at cstephens@hereford.org
