NATIONAL WESTERN STOCK SHOW NATIONAL SALERS & OPTIMIZER SHOW HELD

Denver, CO, January 28, 2008 - The American Salers Association had a weekend packed full of events at the 2008 National Western Stock Show January 12-14. The weekend kicked off with the National Salers Futurity Bull Show on the 12th. The Futurity consists of Salers breeders who annually buy a membership to the Futurity. The show features the breed's best young sires. This year breeders voted NJF Top Level 41T as the 2008 Futurity Bull. He is a January 2007, black, polled, purebred son of GGT P Blk Quantum 207M, owned by Feist Salers Ranch of Velva, ND. There was one Futurity member to have their name drawn to win sale proceeds from the sale of the Futurity Champion Bull. Scott Prutny of Osage, KS was the lucky breeder holding the last card.

The Salers & Optimizer Pen Bull Show began on Sunday the 13th. The three judge panel consisted of Bill Conley, Jim Ligon and Chan Phillips, they began their evaluation of some top quality purebred and half-blood cattle in the Stockyards Arena. The Grand Champion Pen of Salers Bulls went to GG&T Land & Cattle Co. of Quinter, KS with an entry consisting of three January 2007 calves; GGT P Blk Arrival 170T, an AP Polled Genesis XZ64F son; GGT P Bk Recruiter 7T, a GGT P Blk Predator 223N son; and GGT P Red Fire 119T, another AP Polled Genesis XZ64F son. The pen had an average age of 370 days, an average weight of 1,240 pounds, an average WDA of 3.35 pounds, and an average REA/CWT of 1.31.

GG&T also had the Reserve Champion Pen of Salers Bulls with an entry consisting of three more January 2007 calves; GGT P Black Ice 187T, another AP Polled Genesis XZ64F son; GGT P Bk Pwr Broker 68T, a GGT P Broker 137K son; and GGT P Bk Bullseye 94T, another AP Polled Genesis XZ64F son. The pen had an average age of 368 days, an average weight of 1,177 pounds, an average WDA of 3.20 pounds, and an average REA/CWT of 1.23.

MacDonald Ranches of Bismarck, ND had the Grand Champion Pen of Optimizer Bulls. The pen consisted of three bulls born in February and March of 2007; MAC Tailor 207T, sired by MAC F1 Pacesetter 171P; MAC Touchstone 86T, sired by RITO 1I2 of 2536 RITO 6I6; and MAC Tower 50T, sired by SAV 004 Density 4336. Their combined average age was 318 days, average weight of 1,087 pounds, average WDA of 3.42, and average REA/CWT of 1.14.

Twin Valley West Salers or Diller, NE had the Reserve Champion Pen of Optimizer Bulls. The pen consisted of three bulls born in February and March of 2007; TVW Turbo N47T, TVW Tundra 41T and TVW Topper 9T all sired by Keys Hefty 1P. Their average age was 315 days, had average weight of 1,073 pounds, an average WDA of 3.42 pounds and an average REA/CWT of 1.14.

The National Salers & Optimizer Show was held on the 14th. The show kicked off with the Junior Salers show where Mr. Kolby Burch of Casper, WY judged the high quality females. Melissa McCoy, Buhl, ID had the Grand Champion Junior Heifer in the Junior Show. The winning heifer was RCM Blk Sassy 34S, born August 2006, sired by AP Polled Genesis XZ64F. Brenton Salyers, Billings, MO received the Reserve Champion Junior Heifer with GGT P Blk Judy 197S, a January 2006 heifer, sired by AP Polled Genesis XZ64F.

Mr. Jack Ward of Kansas City, MO judged the Open Salers and Optimizer shows following the Junior Show.

Grand Champion Optimizer Female went to Kylie Werth, Quinter, KS with GGT Halle 270S. She is a January 2006 female sired by Bon View New Design 878. Reserve Grand Champion Optimizer Female went to White's Hypoint Salers, Lancaster, WI with DWB Miss Tyra 31T. She is a March 2007 female sired by MAC Neutron 94N.

In the Optimizer Bull Show White's Hypoint Salers had the Grand Champion Optimizer Bull with DWB Titan 42T. He is a March 2007 bull sired by DWB Network 8N. Reserve Grand Champion Optimizer Bull went to Breanna Duncan, Marlow, OK with 3D Unitus. He is a February 2007 bull sired by SS Goldmine L42.

In the Salers Female Show Grand Champion Heifer went to Shayne Lang, Osage, KS with JGK Alexis. She is a February 2006 heifer, sired by AP Polled Genesis XZ64F, and was earlier named the Senior Heifer Division Champion. Reserve Grand Champion Heifer went to GG&T Land & Cattle Co. with GGT P Blk Top Secret 216. She is a January 2006 female, sired by GGT P Blk Preadator 223N, and was earlier named the Reserve Champion Senior Heifer. She is co-owned with Lucky D Cattle Co. of Montague, TX and Kendra Howard of Jamestown, TN.

Moving onto the bulls GG&T Land & Cattle Co. had the Grand Champion Bull with GGT P Blk Heavy Hitter. He is a January 2006 bull, sired by GGT P Heavy Duty 100J and had earlier been named the Junior Champion Bull. GG&T co-owns this bull with L&B Salers of Gove, KS. Reserve Grand Champion Bull went to Brenton Salyers with SSS Mr Big Deal 08S. He is a February 2006 bull, sired by GGT P Blk No Doubt 216M and had been awarded the Reserve Champion Junior Bull earlier in the day.

Junior Get of Sire went to MacDonald Ranches and Elm Creek Ranch with GGT P Redford 18R.

Get of Sire went to GG&T Land & Cattle with AP Polled Genesis XZ64F.

Produce of Dam went to Breanna Duncan with 3D Isis.

Best of Five Head went to GG&T Land & Cattle Co.

Premier Breeder was GG&T Land & Cattle Co.

Premier Exhibitor was H&S Farms of Baltimore, OH.

ASA Herdsman of the Year went to Kurt Love with H&S Farms.
