Santa Gertrudis Breeders International held its annual membership meeting April 21, 2012 in Chattanooga, Tenn. Charla Borchers-Leon, Southern Y Ranch, Victoria, Texas, was elected to serve as the organization's 33rd president. Borchers-Leon's family has a rich ranching heritage in the Texas Gulf Coast and is known for utilizing Santa Gertrudis genetics in their commercial based operation.

The Board of Directors announced during the annual membership meeting that Livestock Genetic Services of Woodville, Virginia has been selected to manage the association's database and will be providing SGBI with quarterly genetic evaluations and pedigree services. The firm, headed by John Genho, currently offers genetic evaluation services for cow-calf operations across the United States and genetic consultation to herd owners domestically and in foreign markets. Administrative and support functions currently managed by American Beef Records Association, Kansas City, will be relocated to Kingsville, Texas and administered by SGBI headquarter staff. These operational changes are scheduled to go into effect October 1, 2012.
