LAMUNECA HOSTS FIELD DAY ON MAY 3

Linn, Texas -- The Rio Grande Valley Brahman and F-1 and the South Texas Brahman Associations recently combined their efforts on May 3rd and had a combined field day at La Muneca Ranch. The field day host, Carlos X. Guerra, stated Our goals were to raise money for both Association's scholarship funds plus have an educational, inspiring and fun event with plenty of South Texas Brahman Camaraderie like the Valley is known for. We are proud to report that all our goals were met.

Over 140 Brahman breeders and enthusiasts from as far away as Poolville, Texas and Louisiana came to listen to a very well-known panel of speakers and to promote the Brahman breed. There were juniors, new breeders and older breeders like 94 year old Bill Duderstadt, long time STBA member in attendance. The Field Day was dedicated to longtime STBA member and Brahman breeder Donna Schneider. The STBA also awarded 17-year STBA Past President Arnold Saunders a very nice marble plaque for his many years of dedication and leadership. Reports RGV F1 & Brahman Association President Mike England.

The program was kicked off by Pam Huffman from La Reina Cattle Co. singing the National Anthem and winning two gift cards donated by Herb & Mary Riojas for traveling the farthest. Pam later reported how inspired she left after hearing Bubba Sartwelle discuss The history and Future of the Brahman F-1 Industry and Victor Guerra's talk How to Utilize Social Media to help you market your cattle.

RGV F-1 and Brahman Asssociation VP Carlos X. Guerra Jr. stated There are few very few AJBA members who have traveled the miles that Evan Acevedo has in going to and from Brahman shows and events ever since he could travel with his family. He was rewarded for his leadership efforts by winning a $2,500 STBA Scholarship, a $1,000 RGV Brahman & F-1 Scholarship and a free entry fee to an AI School donated by the RGV Association. Other RGV Scholarship winners were Natajah Garcia - $1,000, Jody Martin - $1,000, Daniel Gonzalez - $1,000, Marshall Curl - $500 and Milo Flores - $500. A total of $8,200 was awarded by both Associations. We are proud of the great job these students have done in school and with their Brahman cattle.

In an effort to raise money for scholarships, RGV Brahman & F-1 Association member Israel Davila donated a registered Brahman heifer that raised $5,200 at the RGV Show with Newt Huffman, owner of La Reina Cattle Co. winning the heifer. For the field day, the Mike England, Louie Flores and Carlos X. Guerra families donated another heifer with both associations selling 104 - $100 chances (two decks of playing cards) to raise $10,400 for both association's scholarship funds. Long time STBA member Diane Hartman won the heifer. The traditional silent auction also raised $3,036. We would like to thank all of our donors, bidders and buyers for their support reports RGV F-1 and Brahman Association Secretary-Treasurer Javier Moreno.

Several STBA members exhibited cattle at the event. La Muneca hosted hay rides to show their breeding herds in their working clothes.
