Hard to get over $1.35 for 5 wt steers.
Single 5 wt heifers are $1 to $1.05.

With those prices I think you could ship them elsewhere and make money.

What % shrink, shipping and commission is figured in? Not picking, just being realistic. Buying a 5 wt cuttin bull @ $1.10 and holding him 6 weeks, hoping he weighs over 600 when he goes back pencils out pretty well. Holding them 45 days makes them honest trading cattle, tag tracks murder prices when I see them.

Like I said I wouldn't buy and sell!!! If they are your calves and they have been properly weened the shrink shouldn't be over 5% and the commission is at every barn. I'm just saying for a $100 a calf you can ship them a good ways.

I'm picking up what you're laying down now. On feeder calves sometimes it does pay to haul them to a central location. A lot of feeder cattle from my area sell at okc, which is a 200 mile haul.

My thoughts only, don't bet the farm on them. KT

Some people know people, who know people, who aren't very nice people and you could get a visit from them someday. So be good people.

Wednesday here at a preconditioned calf sale the 7wt steers brought more than the 6wt. But then the 8wt brought 3 cents more than the 7wts.
We sold 2 loads that were not in the barn over the phone to be delivered next week Load of steers to weigh 750 brought 131.60 and a load of heifers to weigh 750 were 119.50.
