Yep. My calculator can't figure $1800 bred cows with $550 feeders. Maybe I need a new calculator.

May have to send some cows to Missouri

Another local barn is having a sale this Friday. I've heard they are expecting 700-800 which is a couple hundred more than the norm. Heard one guy brought in 300 SS-BM pairs as he's already bought 300 bred heifers to replace them. A couple of the haulers are guessing them to sell around $1,000 due to their age. I'll probably go so I'll report back.

Last Friday, older average quality pairs were around $1150. Several that my Dad bought were bred back 1st and 2nd Period. Bred heifers were $1500-$1600. Not much quality to any cows there in my opinion. One big run had poor cows and the calves were long tailed and pot gutted. Those pairs didn't bring $1100 with lots of them under $1000.

Can't afford to truck cows to Missouri for those prices.
Lots of heifer calves in this area. Will be expensive to replace old cows if kill price stays in the 40s.
Bought two solid mouth in season cows last week for $775 each.

The big stock cow sale was yesterday. Bred heifers topped at $1,600. The bottom was about $900. That top end was for 100% AI bred, ultra sounded, and known sex on the calves. They split my load into 3 groups. I probably averaged between $1150 and $1,200. I watched mine sell and quickly headed west back over the pass. Winter has arrived in the mountains.

I watched the H T ranch herd dispersal today at Buffalo TX. All were large angus in very good shape. Garner bulls on the breds. Heifers bred 5 to 6 months $1800. Young pairs $2100. Bred cows mostly ranged from $1500 to 1900. A few bargains on some short breds. The best buys were the opens. Some very nice young cows for about $1100.

Calf prices have stabilized here for at least a short period. Kills cows are still cheap. Are you seeing any upward movement on bred cow prices?

They've been selling the wheels off Horned Hereford, Brahman and the resulting Tigerstripe breds there at San Saba. I've got a friend sending 5 loads of Horned Herefords there for a special very soon, he's going to get along good.
