Dicamba

Post by Cross-7 » Tue Jun 11, 2019 7:36 pm

Will Dicamba hurt bermuda?
I’m in a restricted county so I can’t use 2-4D, but everyone is farming dicamba cotton, so I could spray without hurting my neighbors cotton.
I’ve googled it and not finding much about it.
I’d really like to know exactly what it kills.

It will take cotton out it is a broadleaf herbicide. I have never heard of Dicamba cotton. It won’t hurt your Bermuda.
Dicamba works different than most broadleaf herbicide.

Here’s a fact sheet on it.
http://npic.orst.edu/factsheets/dicamba_gen.html

http://npic.orst.edu/factsheets/archive ... _tech.html

Those are the only two I could find on it.
I had a 2.5 gallon jug of 2-4-D plus Dicamba earlier this spring I sprayed pastures with. It was generic brand name is Weedmaster.

I use a lot of DiCamba/2 4 D mix on my bermuda as well as on everything else. Its a good cheap mix. It seems that each chemical house has their own brand. The one I use is Rifle D. It will drift a long way so be careful.

Never tried DiCamba alone.

I’m lost on the dicamba issue. I spray a lot of 2 four D. Does it contain dicamba? Or does it only have dicamba if says so? Does all 2 four D contain dicamba.

It only contains Dicamba if so stated.
2-4-D is an abbreviated chemical equation for its chemical name.

The "D" in 2,4D does not stand for dicamba.
The chemical formula may look similar but one extra or less atom or molecule can change completely, what any substance is.
2,4D has no residual soil activity, Dicamba does.
Dicamba=3,6-dichloro-2-methoxybenzoic acid.
2,4D=2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid.

There are different kinds of 2,4D but for the most part, you can visualize the difference:

On established grass look into pasture guard.
It's basically remedy and fluxyporal????? Spelling. Lol
I've been very impressed with this herbicide. I've gotten good results with less than a half pint on young weeds. And never use over a pint.
Kills pear to. Short plant back. No 24d

I would be careful on young grass. Spay a text patch
If it ain't tight , It ain't right.

fluroxypyr?

I've never used anything with that in it, but looking it up, seems pretty commonly used.

(If you ever run across any 2,4,5-T, run away.
It's agent orange, but without the 2,4-D)

I knew a guy that used to buy 24d and reckons he added something that made it agent orange, is this possible? He was always full of it so i didn't really pay attention or believe it but he sprayed a paddock on a windy day and the drift killed a row of poplars that were about 15m tall, i kind of paid more attention then.

Not possible unless he had access to 2,4,5T. Agent Orange is 50/50 mix 2,4,d and 2,4,5T, which they then mixed with water to be able to spray it in quantity. The bad stuff is a dioxin (TCCD)..and it's a by-product of the manufacture process making 2,4,5T component.
There were quite a few different herbicides/defoilants used in Vietnam, Agent Orange was just one of them. Agents Pink, Orange, White, Purple, Green etc..the colors referred to the color coding of the 55 gal drum bands.
Some agents used only 2,4,5T, some mixed it with other herbicides, including 2,4d or picloram.

Looking at that chart i would say he was using picloram. I remember nothing grew in that paddock for a long time and it was leaching down the hill killing trees for about six months. He must have put it out strong.
