I have heard it called cheat grass also. quite a lot of it here in Okla.

Looks like the seed head of a temperate perennial grass like Cocksfoot after it opens right up.

Anyone know what the tall grass with the head on top is? It’s starting to take over in some areas.

Hard to tell from that pic, but it could be Jap grass
