Started buying private treaty in 2014 when I shouldnt have. 2500.00 for 3 heavy breds. I now have pieced together 21 head by going to the auction and watching for that man unloading one bred, yearling or pair that calved or was calving at an odd time to suit his herd. By Dec-January, Ill have 37 after calving. I dont concern to much with prices, except im still buying that one or two particular sale barn prospect i see. I also bought two Jersey early breds and they milk any calf and share their milk with other moms calves. I havent had to feed or hay until December. I keep out Purina Wind and Rain. Maybe Im lucky but Im just setting here watching them multiply. Id certainly lose money if I had sold... Ive also only had one bull calf born since I started... Certainly helped grown my herd... :deadhorse:
