Longhorn hay bale feeders

Post by Mongo1 » Wed Jan 02, 2019 7:48 am

Hi folks. We're just getting into raising Longhorns. So far we have a bull, a cow, and 5 heifers. We'd love to get your ideas on what style hay ring would be best. Would the poly feeders for $200 on craigslist work? https://austin.craigslist.org/grd/d/aus ... 06376.html
Thanks.

No ..any type of reach through feeder is asking for trouble. They won't have any trouble getting their heads in , out is where trouble happens.
If it ain't tight , It ain't right.

You can all go to he// . I'll go to Texas.

A couple of breeders around here just feed off the ground. No rings, although a cradle might work well.
I wish my brain could forget what my eyes have seen.

feed off ground, make them clean it up before you put out another bale.

Those are great rings for beef cattle.
I have a couple and as light as they are,
you might consider selling tickets to the show. They are going to get hung up. You would be better off building a hay cradle on skids.
