Need help with a cow problem

Postby mileysmassage » Tue Feb 28, 2006 10:22 pm

My uncle has an older cow she has gotten down in her hind end and her tail is spungy feeling. He cut it open and inside it is just mush. He found something that looked like a worm. He said my grandpa used to call this Problem (hollow tail)!!! Overall she is healthy and still has fight to live left in her she just can't get up. This problem with her tail seems to be the reason she has got down but we don't know what this is or of a way to treat it. Has anybody heard of this before or know of a parasite or is there something missing in her diet! All of our other cows are healthy.

I have seen hollowtail years ago. Dad did the same thing with splitting the tail. He also put salt in the cut. They usually recover fairly quickly from it. Good luck.
