Hello

Postby Sarah317 » Thu Mar 09, 2006 11:28 pm

Hello, I'm from the maritimes and have been around horses since I was 7. Nearly a year ago, a vet helped me get a job at a dairy farm and now I have to say that I like cows a lot more than horses!

My main job is to milk cows (309) and it's full time work since we switched to 3x. The farm has about 650-700 head of cattle in total. I've learned a lot from my time here so far and have seen a lot of D.A.'s, mastitis, pnemonia etc... but would love to learn more.

Thanks for the welcome :). Oh yeah, we have a double 16 parallel parlour in the "milking barn" which was completed a few years ago. The days I work I do two milkings but we're done in about 4 to 4 1/2 hours.

Rest in peace my dears 317 & 312.

Sarah...ever worked in a herringbone? Just curious.

I work 6 days a week, 8 to 8 1/2 hour shifts. I've been at this particular dairy 2 1/2 years, worked for another employer for almost 3 years prior to going there, and grew up on a dairy. Like a co-worker once told me, dairy is a curse. You keep going back to it no matter how much you say otherwise.
