Hey now that's how we roll....
Don't know where you are but must meat packers will buy the cows. You don't get paid for several days based on hanging wieght and grade. We generally just go to the sale barn with them.

Stocker calves can be sold at capital livestock in schwertner Texas. They will buy 1 or 1000 head...8:00 to 5:00 5 days a week. You stand right beside the buyer while he wieghs and makes offer on your cattle. You get paid within minutes. . First class outfit and where the majority of my calves go.
If it ain't tight , It ain't right.

You can all go to he// . I'll go to Texas.

Is it worth finishing steers myself or taking $800 at 450 pounds at sale ?

And where are finding someone willing to pay $1.777/lb for feeders?
You can ship cull cows direct to any packing plant. "Generally" you make a little more than if you sell same cow thru live ring, BUT, you are taking the risk of the carcass being condemned. If it is, $0.00 payment. That's why you get less in the ring, buyers are taking that risk.

I would ship them in a heart beat. That price may not be there in another week or two - we never know what they are willing to pay.

All I have now are 300 pounders. I am trying to put another month of weight on them . It’s been going up all year, while cows and pairs are low. We are in a serious drought no grass, starving cows, and cow hay $220 a ton. Horse hay $350 a ton in small bales. Attached a pic of last years prices in March. I usually wait until March and sell 500-600 pounds. But I figure if I sell now I can buy a 1 heavy bred cow From the money from 1 300-350 steer.

I may not be following what your doing. You are weaning in the fall at 300# and feeding another 7 months or 200 days. To add another 250-300 pounds then marketing?

Be careful when selling them. Try to find the buyers who are willing to pay your price.
