Any Day Now

Postby I luv herfrds » Wed May 16, 2012 11:15 pm

Waiting for my milk cow to calve. Checked her tonight. She is bagged up. Dropped her attitude and wanted a scratch tonight. Looking fat and sassy!
I'm guessing within the next 48 hours should have a calf on the ground and the milking machine going.

Her AI date put her at may 25th.

As nice as it is having fresh milk around, enjoy the peace while you can. The daily grind is just around the corner.

It is raining so she is in the barn and ticked off because I did not give her and special feed! :lol2:
Got a tube of oral stuff on stand by just in case she gets milk fever. Vet said better prepared and not have it happen then have it happen and not have anything.
Hoping for the best but preparing for the worst. Could not get the sub q stuff. Vet order only.

Already in the daily grind I got a town job. :(

usually no need to worry about milk fever till her fifth birthday. Not that it isn't wise to have the stuff on hand.

IT'S A HEIFER!!!!!!!

Found her this afternoon after a graduation party. Calf was up and had already nursed. Got the cow in and milked her. Going to milk her in the morning too plus again tomorrow night. Trying to reach the guy with the bum calf.
Colostrum is in bags and in the freezer dated.

Yep!
Got 4 gallons today. Been milking her twice a day. Picking up the bum calf tomorrow.
Named the heifer Gwen because of the white she has on the end of her tail.

Got the bum calf. A little Hereford bull.
Named him Tick. He looks like a fat tick after nursing on my milk cow! :lol2: :lol2: :lol2:

Ran into the guy I got him from and he got a kick out of what I named him. Said it fit him perfectly. Told me that the calf had never sucked on his dam and he was surprised that he was nursing the cow.
Only problem is I have to put Honey in the head catch before he will try to nurse. He seems a bit scared of both my cow and her calf. Gwen wants to play but he is shy around her.
