I'm not sure what we teach kids when projects bring that kind of money.

Who's buying them for that kind of money. Someone has more money than smarts. Must be tax deductible or a tax write off. Them are the folks the IRS should be looking into.

 I get chewed on about that one quite a bit but it doesn't work for me and I won't bid unless I see a kid that is just flat getting screwed. I'd rather see a kid make just enough profit that they cover their costs and have a little something to be proud of and lose some on about every third animal that they raise. It's a real dis-service to teach them that livestock is worth that much.

It kinda killed showing for many people when the craziness started. It made it tough to show a keeper out of your field, and be competitive.

The folks that bought it are probably the same folks that she bought it from. Price of next years pigs just went through the roof too. It's a racket. Got a friend just outside of Lubbock with a big reputation for raising winning show pigs. Owns over 300 sows...imagine his gross sales on show pigs alone and people are beating his door down to get them.

Duncan, OK hosts the biggest show pig sale every year and all the top dawgs are there. Back when I was messing with them a boar sold for 2,500,000.00. When it was all said and done it turned out that no money really changed hands. They made their money off semen sales at 1500.00 a bottle. Yep, when you get that kind of money involved it's a racket.

I always want to go offer them $2,000,000.00 to see what they say.

I would be afraid to do that, unless the students bought them thru a public auction.

Neighbors were some kind of kin to them and their niece would get her lamb there. Always a quality animal and always in the sale.
