Goodby Sam

My buddy went missing on Thursday, he always comes home by dark. I couldn't find him but I figured he'd be back on Friday. Got home from work and still no Sam. So I went looking. He was no where to be found and the neighbors hadn't seen him. Drove the pastures on Saturday, still no Sam. Got up on Sunday and Started driving the pastures again, went by an old ditch 3-4 times and never saw him. On the way back the sun shine came through the trees and landed on an old dryer that has been there since probably before I was born and that's when I caught a glimpse. He must have been chasing a rabbit and got his head shoved in the hole past his ears and couldn't get out. Bad part is he heard me calling him and driving past that ditch on several occasions the previous days but he couldn't answer. I'm just sick. Sweet hearted, good as gold to my kids, and the best guard dog I have ever seen. I'll miss him.

The quickest way to lose money in the cattle business is to do it the way grandpa did it.....and the quickest way to lose everything in the cattle business it to forget the way grandpa did it. (Dad)

That's too bad. Not all dogs are good, and it makes you appreciate the really good ones.

That's a bad deal Isom. Sorry about that. I walked outside one morning to find my buddy dead. Stuck his head in one of those plastic Halloween pumpkins that kids tote their candy in.
