352.00

Postby Hook » Tue Dec 23, 2014 12:56 pm

Thats what it cost for 3 cases of pork bellies totaling 150 pounds , a 10 lb bone less spiral ham, and a 7 lb chunk of corned beef cost. The bellies will be cured, and traded out for 30 rolls of Bermuda hay, putting the hay cost at 10 bucks a roll. 8)

The next question is the hay worth $10.00. Hopefully it hasn't been rained on before it was rolled.
I've been checking at the gate for my Christmas bacon, but I guess the dogs must of ate it.

I can make sure you get some next time you're down this way.
The hay was baled back in October. We didn't get any rains for the whole month and it's under cover. Got some more peanut hay coming to but that's 30 bucks for small 4x4 twine wrapped rolls

That's to high for peanut hay. Peanut hay is light and takes twice as much to fill a cow up. But they sure do well on it.

Hard to find it at all down here. Junk 4x5 or 4x6 rounds are 35-40.

Does that include the cost of the beer which is an absolute necessity when curing or cooking.

Ex father in law always said, "I don't know how they can make it so good and sell it so cheap". :drink: :)

I'm ready for 5, got several on ice and I feel like I deserve one. Long day riding this desk.

I like the idea of bartering for stuff. I see hope in our future if more people did this. Of course the use of bartering on a grand scale is why the governments of Italy and Greece are broke. Seems like with a 75% tax rate and a liberal agenda they would have plenty of money.

Me too. Its a better representation of effort and product value traded for more than just a piece of paper. I've found it helps people understand what level of skill, time or work goes into a product or idea
