I thought that looked like kikuyu :hide: :hide:
Nice cows, can't say the same for the grass.

One of those delightful, crisp autumn afternoons when the Kikuyu is growing all out and the cows and calves are getting fat. I'm sure there's a donkey ... just out of shot...

Go on Regolith, Kikuyu is a fantastic grass in the right conditions. It grows like crazy with hardly any rain and during a long, hot summer, that's a huge advantage over rye. It also conserves the rye and clover during the hot periods and if well managed, allows them through during its dormancy. One of the best dairy farmers up here is on a Kikuyu-dominant farm.

My tanker turn-around starts to look like that this time of year... for some reason the whole lot upped and died as soon as spring arrived, now it's back. Creeps in off the roadsides. It's popping out of the top of the roadside hedges and under the eaves of some of the sheds.
Works for you guys I don't like it on my farm.
I hear they make lawns with it up that way too.

Lawns are great! You can shave them and they come up green within a couple of days. There used to be Kikuyu in my kitchen, after it grew through the wall somehow. Had to wipe it with glyphosate to stop it.
Cows graze the tops of old fenceposts ...
Calves grow at 2.6 lbs/day to weaning on it, no extras provided. Just got to manage it well so the clover does well with it.

That truly was a great picture. I'm sure you are well aware of how lucky you are to be able to be there in person taking the picture.

Thank you, thank you and thank you. :) Lucky is certainly true. This place is magic and we love it.

Right now that grass looks entirely different, having been shrivelled away by a couple of frosts last week. The cattle are still fat though. :D

Thanks for your vote TB. That was a pic of part of my parents ayrshire herd on star grass pasture some years ago. My father had it set out really well, if I can find some more pics I will post them.
