That was funny......but if you ever go to China or Japan you will see they eat almost anything that moves. They don't like dog or cat with dark fur so if you have a black dog or cat they will OK! from the Chinese dog catcher.

here plucking the cat means to play the guitar or violin. as it was once thought that the strings were made of cat gut. research has proved it not so.

angie wrote:OK, the song "Play Me Some Mountain Music" has a phrase in it that goes "playin' baseball, skinnin' cats". What on earth is skinnin' cats? Have asked bunches of people and have been asked several times. Big bar discussion once. Several locals think it means exactly what it says ~ people are skinnin cats. I say no one can be that mean and if they were they sure wouldn't sing about it. Any answers out there? I would love to be the one in the know for once! Thanks ~
Angie

Angie, By taking the lyrics of the song, "Mountain Music", in their proper context, it is clear that Randy wasn't using "Skinnin' Cats" to mean skinning catfish.

Not to say that some don't use that term for cleaning fish, it's just not what is meant in the song.

Song Lyrics - Mountain Music
Oh, play me some mountain music,
Like grandma and grandpa used to play
Then I'll float on down the river
To a Cajun hideaway

Drift away like Tom Sawyer,
Ride a raft with ol' Huck Finn.
Take a nap like Rip Van Winkle,
Daze dreamin' again.

Oh, play me some mountain music,
Like grandma and grandpa used to play
Then I'll float on down the river
To a Cajun hideaway

Swim across the river,
Just to prove that I'm a man
Spend the day bein' lazy,
Just bein' nature's friend
Climb a long tall hick'ry.
Bend it over, skinnin' cats

Playin' baseball with chert rocks,
Usin' sawmill slats for bats.

Play some back-home, come-on music
That comes from the heart.
Play something with lots of feelin',
'Cause that's where music has to start

Oh, play me some mountain music,
Like grandma and grandpa used to play
Then I'll float on down the river
To a Cajun hideaway, hey, hey

Oh play me mountain music
Oh play me mountain music
Oh play me mountain music
Oh play me mountain music

Crowder's 2007 Mexican to English Dictionary, defines "Chert Rocks" as:

A smooth out-cropping of rocks, used to do laundry on. ie: Hey Poncho, let me wash my Cherts in your laundry soap.

Then we get a bottle of Tequilla. We drive my Chevy. pronunciation not Shevvy, but CH-evy.

Any questions?

You know dang well that "Cherts" are washed on "Soapstone". :P
