I've always vaccinated mine when I first work them (1-3 months old), and then heifers get another one at weaning. So far I've been okay.

Yep. Vet says it was blackleg but was surprised she didn't have any of the symptoms. Got a ten pack of the shot, about to give it to them.

What symptons of Anthrax have they been showing? Why were you cuddling it if showing symptoms of Anthrax?

I'm sorry you lost the calves, but I guess I wasn't so dumb after all.

"The most common symptom of Blackleg is a dead calf."
That's about right...In 30 years of involvement with veterinary medicine(and 50+ around cattle)... I've seen exactly ONE live 'blackleg' calf... and it was dead within 12 hrs.

To me... a dead, unvaccinated calf... is a blackleg case until proven otherwise.

New defect? I'm not familiar.
The more I read here the less I know.

They don't have to show symptoms the symptoms is they died. If you felt the back legs they would feel like a bag of Fritos under the skin.

looks like it came out Wednesday. hope they get the bloodlines figured out quickly before spring breeding. It sounds exactly like these calves mentioned on here.

What does the line of bulls used have to do anything with blackleg?

It has nothing to do with blackleg, but if vet diagnosed it wrong, has everything to do with genetic defect.

There's no defect, apparently somebody got a little excited and reported to bull studs before AAA and forced there hand, seems a mutation in one of his cows so a board member told me today. And breeding to his daughters then grand daughters.
