White beans

Postby bigbruh » Tue Mar 14, 2017 8:12 pm

A friend of mine gave me a drum of dry white canneloni beans. Has anyone ever fed them? Just wondering how much nutritional value they have or if they are even safe to feed to cows. Any help would be great.

Never heard of them but IF the cow will eat them I'd probably feed them in small amounts as a treat.

I mixed them with some cracked corn and bluegrass pellets. They lick everything clean. I assume you say small amounts because of the protein?

Because of the unknown, crude protein being one of them.

Canneloni beans are grown for human consumption; often used in baked beans and such. Like a navy bean. Not as much protein as say soybeans, but a perfectly okay bean to feed. I have grown them and used them in the chicken feed before. So I would say mixing some in a cattle ration should not be a big deal. Ask at your feed mill sometime and see if they would give you an amount to just add to any feed you are feeding in the case you get some more down the road.
