STEER WITH DIARRHEA

Postby tazzer » Sun Oct 08, 2017 1:05 pm

I have a 7 month old steer show calf that we changed up the feed, I thought we switched him slow enough to the new feed but yesterday he started having the runs.
im keeping lots of water and backed him down on his feed which is not eating no where near what he normly does.
also going to get him some electrolytes.

is there anything else I need to do.
hes still getting up and drinking and eating a little grain and hay.

thanks

Won't cure the scares but adding a little baking soda helps the rumen.

I'd probably pull the grain and feed hay only until he straightens out, then begin to slowly give grain again and increase it over time until you have him back up to the level of intake you want. Can't hurt anything to continue mixing the baking soda in the mix....increase it until you get several ounces into him everyday. Will help prevent acidosis.
