Never planned on it! We have plenty of cows. Don’t need to buy more lol

I find calves on their dam are very quick to pick up eating solids, quicker than if you have them by themselves on a bottle. They are not very old before you see them picking away at the hay at feeding time. I think they learn a lot from the older animals.

I agree with the others, a friend that knows how to eat will help her figure it all out. My last bottle calf was raised with my goats and learned really quickly by copying them (she still thinks shes a goat, and until recently prefered to browse instead of graze), I bought a holstin heifer to keep her company, and she had to teach the holstein about hay (the holstein was raised with a bunch of other dairy calves, she knew what feed was, just not so much forage). Sometimes when I have bottle goats I will sit with them and pretend to eat the hay and feed, I'm sure I look silly, but they get the hint.

My current bottle calf is in my house, but being so close with the dogs has made him very currious about the dog food.

Oh dear, do I really come off that young?? I mean granted I’m long winded and easily frantic, but 12?? Oiy vey  I’m actually flattered to have found this sight. There’s so many of you that know a lot and I’ve learned a lot from everyone that’s helpful information I would’ve never known without y’all.

Sorry if I’m making anyone feel old though! Not my intention I swear it!
