New property

Post by broncohunter » Fri Aug 17, 2018 9:05 pm

My neighbor asked me tonight if I wanted to rent her property. It surrounds me on 2 sides but has no fence. What is everyone's opinion on fence options? Will 4 strands of hot wire keep 5weight steers in?

Yes. But don’t just “chunk” them out there. Need to break them to electric first if they’re not used to it.

Any Fence will hold them....until it doesn’t.

To update she asked today about me buying it and just paying her. So I might do electric then add barbwire and woven as time goes on

If it adjoins you and you can afford it, then adding more land is USUALLY always a good thing. I wouldn't hesitate to buy something that adjoins me if it was at all useable, or offered a buffer to other landowners or something that I didn't like next to me....plus the added benefit of being able to control what I did on that piece of land and not having to worry about doing work then losing the lease....

Try 842-12 fixed knot woven wire. Cost effective and is a true physical barrier. Unlike electric fence, it works all the time.
The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.
