I know he is no stud and does not have the mass of premium bulls. Got him tested fertile, low birthweight brangus gentle for $1600. Plan on breeding the replacements from him with a hereford with some mass. Let me havebm yournm thoughts. The good and the ugly. Couldntbm afford or justify a more expensive bull for the smaller herd of cows I have.

The worst part about using a new bull is you don't know what you have till after his first calf crop. Price wise he seems cheap, but all cattle are cheap now comparatively.

Nailed it I refuse to buy a bull with out seeing the sire and progeny on the ground. Had to many train wrecks in my youth. Still have night terrors from some of those wisdom gaining experiences Bad cow hurts bad bull is a disaster

I saw his sire. A massive 2300 pound brangus thats rear end was taller then me. He would be able to jump any existin fence. Huge hips and beefy. He was a beast. So darn big he would be the only thing to fit in my 14 foot trailer. I have been looking at redoing my corrals if this one gets the same size. I also saw his sisters and momma. All good looking cattle. This guy is 14 months.

One last pic. The guy was feeding him the left over waste from the beer companys but not very much. When I bought him he had never had a vaccination so the guy was one of those "closed herd" guys that never ran his cattle. I got a money back guarantee though. My vet said he tested good on fertility and negative on trich. Basically got him for the price of beef.

Massive and huge hips is not a good thing sometimes. You better watch breeding him to heifers till you see the size of his calves. Sounds like he could have some big calves to me.

yep I will be curious to see the first ones. The guy said 65 pound calves but if he doesnt work cattle I dont see him weighing calves. He is a pastor at a church. Hopefully this guy has integrity and my cows do well with him as well. If they start throwing huge babies he is out the door quick.

Any way to see his sire and dams CED EPDS? More important than BW IMO.

No, not registered or tracked. Just told this guy hasnt had to pull a calf. But heck I just had to pull a calf from a heifer AI'D to a calving ease GAR Advance angus from Bovine Elite. He is only breeding cows. Not running with any heifers.

Since you aren't using him on heifers I wouldn't worry much about birth weight. Other than that, it's hard to tell much from those pictures.

You can't tell anything from those pictures in terms of his phenotype except that he looks light and feminine - but even that's a guess because of the picture quality.

If you paid more than $1 a lb (in this area) without EPDs, knowing his sire and dam's production history, or seeing his calves, then you did not get your money's worth. In my opinion.

Tigerstripe, brangus, hereford and angus. The angus are getting sold next year. I like how my brahma blood is doing in the heat. My angus are having a harder time this summer.
