He did better than $0.80/lb someone else I know sold for 2 weeks ago.

I'm keeping my 5 calves through the winter. Fixing to pen them to wean off the cows.

Why would they prefer knife cut steers over banded?

Less chances for getting a stag with one nut or both nuts.

Light calves have seen a good jump here this week due to it being time for turnout cattle, the rain starting to come and a little optimism starting to finally show itself on the board.
A buyer working an auction for me today said front end weaned steers weighing 440lbs. brought $151.50 today in Visalia and their heifer mates brought $128.50 at the same weight.

Sold some on Monday and was satisfied with what I got with the way calves were selling. 668lb steers 1.20, some 490 steers 1.30. Heifers were 500lbs 1.23, 1 610lb 1.10. Those were all black. I had 1 good char colored heifer that was 500lb sold by herself for 1.08. That was the way good calves were selling, with lower quality calves bringing under a dollar or just a little over.

Sold 3 black steers Friday; 1 weighed 620, and 2 1395 (700) brought 1.03 . 2 cull cows weighed 1050 and 1120 $.54. About what we expected. Heifer prices were up some, there was a guy buying 6 wts and up run nearly all to 1.00. Smaller ones in the 90 to 125 range. Better than 2 weeks ago. We are going to take 15-20 next friday, cull out some of the lower end ones. Don't expect them to do more than average, but need to move a few out for room for the last group to wean. May as well keep the better ones. They will be the smaller ones probably in the light 4 wts. Probably going to send some in early january or so, will just watch the sales.
Went to a reg ang bull sale here local today; 2 guys get together, one is all angus the other is some pure lim and some percentage. Angus avg in the 3-3500 range. One brought 6,000 two 4500 several only in the 2000 to 3000 range. They were yearlings. The Lims brought in the 3000 range, one was 4900; they were 18 months. Sold 5 reg angus bred heifers, 2 @ 1900, the other 3 @ 1600. 5 reg lim bred heifers same prices 2 @ 1900 and 3 @ 1700. Heard another angus sale last week averaged 3300 overall. Last year they would've gone another 1000 to 1500 higher avg.
