Noromycin LA 300 Dosage Instructions

Post by cbackerman » Sun Apr 14, 2019 12:48 am

Greetings,
When I read the instructions for Noromycin LA 300, the proper dosage in not clear. There are ambiguous instruction for dilution and non-dilution. Lower doses are only listed as dilutions. I would prefer not to dilute if possible. If I have a cow (1000 lb) and would like to give a standard dose (5mg/lb), is it appropriate to give this cow 17 cc's of 300 LA pulled straight out of the bottle and injected into the muscle? The directions also do not indicate that the antibiotic stays in the system for multiple days, yet I have read here that the antibiotic is supposed to last for 4-7 days depending on the dose. Any guidance is appreciated.

It's generally 3 - 5 ml per lb. I do 5 ml, SQ, no more than 10cc per injection site. Straight from the bottle, do not dilute. I'd give your cow a good 50cc.

Do not inject it into the muscle. What is wrong with the cow?
My thoughts only, don't bet the farm on them. KT

On the side of the box is a chart that gives weight range and dosage. A 1,000lb cow should get 30ml. There is a 28 day withdrawl period.

TC-he's asking about LA-300. It's more concentrated than LA-200. 50ml would be a huge overdose.

Yes, the side of the box indicates 30cc for a 1000 lb cow for LA300 (Noromycin) but dosage on the instructions inside & drugs.com state:
For other indications NOROMYCIN 300 LA is to be administered intramuscularly, subcutaneously or intravenously at a level of 3 to 5 mg of oxytetracycline per pound of bodyweight per day. In treatment of foot-rot and advanced cases of other indicated diseases, a dosage level of 5 mg per pound of bodyweight per day is recommended. Treatment should be continued 24 to 48 hours following remission of disease signs, however, not to exceed a total of four (4) consecutive days. If improvement is not noted within 24 to 48 hours of the beginning of treatment, diagnosis and therapy should be re-evaluated by a veterinarian.

I've always gone with the higher dosage & so does my vet - although that could be by the time they need a vet it's a more advanced case.

Well alrightie :) My vet won't use it or sell it or talk about it. I don't know what his problem is with the 300 version. So for this conversation, I'll split the difference with you and we'll say a 1,000 lb cow can have 40 ml. ;-)
