The Santa Gertrudis Breeders of the Carolinas hosted their 28th annual sale at Edwards Double E Farms sale facility in Marshville, North Carolina, on May 19, 2001.

Attendance was good and the catered bar-b-que brisket and pork with all the trimmings was excellent. The sale facility at Double E is second to none and makes the staging and viewing of the cattle extremely enjoyable.

Top selling bull consigned by Al Jackson of Lou-Al-Tuck Farms, Great Falls, S. C., brought $2,000 selling to Chip Lane of Kermersville, N.C. This young Rafter son came off the Breeders of the Carolinas Gain Test with some impressive numbers. His avg. gain was 3.8 lbs/day with a WPDA of 3.3. His REA was 14.7, IMF 4.29 and a scrotal circumference of 38.5 cm.

The second top bull was M&M 45/9 consigned by M&M Farms of Polkton, N.C. He sold to Jim Edlin for $1,200. This young Resistor 723 son was also on the Breeders of the Carolinas Gain Test. He had a REA of 11.89, IMF 3.2 and a scrotal circumference of 41 cm.

High selling heifer was consigned by Clyde Moore of 2M Farms, Whiteville, N.C., and sold to Delmo Payne of Grandview Farms, Hamilton, Ala. This female 7/50 has Double C Polled Max, L-L Farms, and Cimmarron III on bottom. She had a beautiful heifer calf at side sired by National Champion bull, Hatchet 150.

The second top selling heifer consigned by Edwards Double E Farms of Marshville, N.C., brought $1,700 selling to Cotton Branch Plantation of Meadville, Miss. Van's Felicity 681 is a daughter of Polled Sam 252 on top and Flying B Ranch on bottom. She sold bred and safe four months to DCR 521 with a fine looking heifer calf at side sired by a son of Cadillac.

The Breeders of the Carolinas is dedicated to offering some of the best genetics of Santa Gertrudis cattle at their annual sale, and the affiliate looks forward to their annual Santa Gertrudis sale.

Carroll Cannon of Ty Ty, Georgia auctioned the 38 lots consigned by 25 breeders for an average of $1,280 on 38 lots.
