The IRBBA's annual Genetic Edge Sale was held Saturday, February 17, 2001 at the Holiday Inn – Astrodome. This premier event in the International Red Brangus breed was held in conjunction with the World Brangus Congress and the Houston Livestock Show.
The sale averaged $3,165 per lot. The high selling lot was a one-sixth semen interest in CX Powerman 307H, the San Antonio and Houston Grand Champion bull. He was consigned by Cox Excalibur Red Brangus of Weimar, Texas and purchased by Kent Higdom of Mobile, Ala., for $20,000. The second highest lot was also a bull consigned by Cox Excalibur Red Brangus. John Rice of J-R Red Brangus, Crawford, Texas, purchased one-half semen interest and full possession of CX Red Top 745J, for $7,500.
The high selling female was CX MS Excalibur 88K, a January 2000 heifer consigned by Cox Excalibur and purchased by Jack Dolan of Fort Smith, Ark., with a $4,300 bid. Mr. Dolan purchased seven heifers and was the volume buyer of the sale. The second highest selling female was MS Una Vaca 41J, a November, 1999 heifer consigned by Una Vaca Ranch of West Columbia, Texas and purchased by Cox Excalibur Red Brangus.
