April 21 saw a capacity crowd at Southern Light Farms' 4th Annual Production Sale in Clarksville, Tenn. Owner Jerry Stuard and crew created a grand event with quality cattle and southern hospitality second to none. The sale grossed $218,900 with 112 lots for an average of $2,015.
The sale opened up with bidder's choice of two of the premier donors in the Southern Light herd. Lot 1 VOL Cara H60B 1CA and Lot 4 Sweet Suthrn GPJ 212B PCA have helped to establish a foundation of females in the Clarksville program. When the bidding stopped the crowd saw Swafford Chiangus of Pikeville, Tenn. pay $9,000 to choose "212B." After the bidding opened up again, the gavel fell at $7,400 for "Cara". Her new owners are Talmo Ranch of Georgia, Pass Cattle Company of Texas and Foster Brothers, also of the Lone Star State. Rounding out the donor pen were purchases of $4,500 for Lot 2, VOL Sable 68BB, by Myers Cattle Company from Indiana, and $3,600 for Lot 3, Miss Paycheck 4 2CA, by Southern Trust Farms from Tennessee.
In the Fall Cow/Calf Pair division, Schaefer Chiangus of Des Lacs, North Dakota purchased Lot 25, VOL Zara 9150-133G 1CA, and her WYR Impulse 1CA heifer for $3,000. Richard Jennings of Tennessee took the winning bid at $2,600 for VOL Maxine 85D and her bull calf, which sold as lot 12 and 12A. Dr. Bill McDonald purchased Lot 30, VOL Sher 252B-252H 1CM and her heifer calf by WYR Impulse 1CA for $2,500.
Guest consignments from Pass Cattle Company, Riverbend Farm, Southern Trust Farms, Talmo Ranch and Woodhaven Farm only strengthened the offering. Talmo Ranch consignment, Lot 37 & 37A, raked in $4,600 with 37A, TR Ms Flash 536K 1CA, commanding $2,800 from Tyler Minish of Georgia, and her dam,Valentine Eline 2G18 536 selling for $1,800 to Pass Cattle Company. Talmo Ranch's Lot 35 & 35A's price totaled $2,700 after leaving the ring with Dale Meeks taking the heifer calf by CJB Flash PCA and Kip Jackson adding her dam to his operation. 38 & 38A, a registered Angus pair consigned by Southern Trust Farms commanded top dollar with Dave Sanders of Ohio choosing 38A, a heifer calf by TC Advantage, at $2,300 and Ard Ridge Cattle Company of Kentucky taking her dam, VDAR Polly 7023, at $2,500. Another Talmo Ranch rose to the top as the gavel dropped when Jenna Payton of Ohio paid $3,100 for Lot 42, TR Who 406. Pass Cattle Company, the "Home of Champions", saw their consignments command the crowd's attention as Lot 41, PCC Ms Angel Gal CAX brought $4,400. Talmo Ranch now owns her. Paige Pirkle of Florida will be giving PCC Ms Jade 401K PCA, Lot 44, a workout at upcoming junior shows after purchasing her from Pass Cattle Company for $4,750.
From the Spring Calving Cow pens, Lot 66, VOL Ms Snap 103C103H 1CA, saw a handsome sum of $4,800 for one-half interest from Ard Ridge Cattle Company. A bull calf accompanied Ms Snap by BEF Wisner PCA. Dave Sanders added VOL Pam 128-63F 1CA, Lot 52 to his load at $2,600.
The Fall Yearling Heifer group held several highlights. Foster Brothers of Texas paid $3,200 for one-half interest in Lot 93, VOL Primrose 114J 2CA. Two full siblings by Eagle Scout 2CA brought in $6,600 after leaving the sale ring. Lot 99,VOL Ms Scout 111A 43J 2CA, went to Chi-G Farms of Georgia for $3,600 and Lot 98, VOL Ms M 111A 39J 2CA, brought $3,000 from Talmo Ranch. Chi-G Farms also paid $2,600 for a daughter of JRBF Peyton 16G 1CA, Ms PNJ Jerry's Pride 2CA, and $2,500 for another full sib to Lots 98 and 99, VOL Ms Scout 111A 36J 2CA.
Prices were steady in the Spring Show Prospects group. The two top sellers in the group will see service in two prominent Georgia programs. Talmo Ranch added Lot 107, VOL Sher 252D 36K PCA, to their operation at $2,500. RSE Farms added the fourth Eagle Scout 2CA x Ms Wille 111 1CA heifer in the offering to their program at $2,400.
Stephen Smith of Ravenswood Farm in Tennessee loaded Lot 125, VOL Eagle 4Z 115K PCA, on his trailer after bidding $2,500 for the bull.
Volume buyer was Paul Cook of Springfield, TN with 12 Lots.
