SHOWCASE SANTA GERTRUDIS SALE HELD IN MONTGOMERY

Montgomery, Alabama -- After the excitement of the National High Point Awards Presentation and Arena Celebration, buyers were in high spirits for the ShowCase Santa Gertrudis Sale. The sale, held in conjunction with the Santa Gertrudis Breeders International National Show and the Southeastern Livestock Exposition, had a very successful turnout on March 16, 2001 at Montgomery, Ala.

The high selling bull was the buyer's pick from Briggs Ranches' 2001 spring gain test bulls. The bull sold to Herman Davis, Davis and Son, of Chatsworth, Ga., for $4,100. Davis will be getting some of the best genetics ever produced by Briggs Ranches, as he selects from 75 bulls on that gain test. The second top bull was MC Kudzu consigned by Circle A Farm of Williamsport, Tenn. Kudzu sold to Tinney Farms of Hanceville, Ala., for $3,300. This outstanding bull is a coming three-year-old son of MC Scarlet's Rebel, the 1998-99 SGBI Sire of the Year, and is out of the 1998-99 SGBI Dam of the Year, MC Scarlet's Bonnie. Kudzu was the 1998 National Calf Champion Bull and the Grand Champion Bull of the 2000 North American Show and the 2000 North Carolina State Fair. With this outstanding bull, Tinney will be adding more purple power to an already successful year in the show ring.

The top selling heifer was Miss Grandview 878 consigned by DuBois Cattle Company of Jewett, Texas. She sold to Lou-Al-Tuck Farm of Great Falls, South Carolina, for $5,000. This outstanding female, Faith, was from the top of DuBois' show string and sold as a 3-n-1 bred back to Clarendon P 740. At side was her outstanding bull calf. He was an AI calf by Clarendon P 740 and a grandson of Grandview's Daddy Rabbit on the bottom. Top selling bred heifer was Tatum 112-8 consigned by In the Red Santa Gertrudis Ranch of Eustace, Texas, and sold to PS Ranch of Terrell, Texas, for $3,800. This daughter of Double Circle 94/251 and In the Red 316/2 was the 1999-2000 National Heifer Calf Champion as well as the High Point Heifer Calf. She will be an outstanding addition to Philip Sanford's elite herd.

The volume buyer was Tinney Farms of Hanceville, Ala., with Borchers Southern Y Ranches, L.P. of Victoria, Texas, coming in a close second. The ShowCase Sale brought in an average of $2,502.
