The sale was held March 22, 2002 at the local stockyards in Moulton, Ala. There was a capacity crowd from Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee.
The sale featured consignments from fifteen purebred Charolais breeders from Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee. The forty-nine senior bulls were purchased by thirty-one buyers and seven buyers carried home the twenty-two Charolais heifers. They all went to Alabama and three surrounding states. The thirty-nine Brangus heifers went to seven buyers all from Alabama.
The top 1/3 (17 senior bulls) averaged $1,585; the top 2/3 (33 senior bulls) averaged $1,326 with an overall average for the 49 senior bulls being $1,200. Twelve junior (yearling) bulls averaged $954 and eight bulls calves brought $692 each. Fourteen bred heifers averaged $1,053 and seven open heifers went for $943 each. The 39 Brangus heifers has an average of $825 each.
The top volume buyers were Pam Tucker from Crossville, Ala., with the purchase of four bulls and four Charolais heifers; Arnold Hornbuckle from Huntsville, Ala., with seven Charolais heifers; John Norris of Winfield, Ala., carried home 12 of the Brangus heifers.
