Registered bidders from 10 states saw a quality set of Chiangus and Angus seedstock walk through the sale ring at Jerry Stuard's 5th Annual Production Sale held at Southern Light Farms. A total of 116 Registered Chiangus and Angus lots grossed $179,145 to average $1,545 and 26 Purebred Foundation Angus Fall Calving Heifers grossed $28,200 to average $1,085.
An unseasonably warm spring day set the stage as the high-selling Lot 1, Jessica's Ms Total Pkg 2CA, entered the ring. Jessica's progeny, listed in the catalog, read like a Who's Who in the Chiangus breed. Bidding quickly passed the $10,000 mark and at the fall of the gavel the new owners, Talmo Ranch of Talmo, Ga., Roger Lane of Gainesville, Ga., and Dale Overstreet of Oakwood, Ga. had proclaimed new ownership of Jessica and her exceptional March heifer calf by Flash for $14,000.
Lot 46, WEB Traveler 6807 of 35ZH3, a purebred Angus daughter of the great DHD Traveler 6807 and her Chiangus heifer calf by VOL Impulse 60B-12J 2CA commanded their share of the attention in the sale pens and in the sale ring. Ard Ridge Cattle Co. bid $8,000 for the privilege to take the pair to their Nancy, Ky. operation. Talmo Ranch did a tag team on a couple of full sibling sisters by Eagle Scout 2CA and PNJ Lady Di 4B 2CA. Along with Shirlynne Cattle Co. of Hollansburg, Ohio they purchased Lot 115, VOL Lady Di 4B L97 2CA, a January 2001 daughter for $7,300. $3,200 was the price it took to take her bred sister, Lot 81, VOL Lady Di 260K 2CA, for Talmo and Schaefer Chiangus of Des Lacs, N.D.
Southern Light transferred ownership of Lot 69, SC Queen 88, a tremendous purebred Angus yearling daughter of Twin Valley Precision E161 to Woodhaven Farms of Lebanon, Tenn. and Ed Stallings of Knoxville for $5,700. Lot 51, WEB Ext Traveler 71, a daughter of GDAR Traveler 71 and her heifer by 12J made a lot of friends as she entered the sale ring. Willow Oak Ranch of Rogersville, Tenn. showed their appreciation by paying $4,700 to place the pair in their herd.
Lot 7, a tremendous 4-year old Chiangus daughter of Rito 9FB3 of 5H11 Fullback was a sale hit. Ms PNJ FB Katie 30G 1CA's quality, performance and EPD's made her a crowd favorite. Phil Richardson of Maynardville, Tenn., bid $4,550 for her and her newborn bull calf by "Sancho" aka VOL Cara's Boy 31J. VOL Angel 251H 173K 1CA, Lot 72, a daughter of OCC Backstop 888B went to Talmo Ranch for $3,200.
