A bright sunny day greeted the largest crowd to date at the 12th Annual Yon Family Farms Performance Tested Angus and Charolais Bull Sale. The sale was held at the farm in Ridge Spring, S.C. on February 16, 2002. A total of 99 bulls sold, with 88 yearling Angus bulls selling for an average of $2,290, and 11 yearling Charolais bulls averaging $2,150.
The top selling Angus bull, L04, was a powerful son of Schoenes Fix It and sold to Angus Acres (Jimmy & Ann Sasser) from Goldsboro, N.C. for $6,400. Zorn Land & Cattle, located in Vidalia, Ga., selected the 2nd high bull, L72, at $5,500 and he was an impressive son of PAPA Durabull. Two sons of Basin Max 602C commanded a price of $4,000 each as the third high sellers. Galloway & Sons, Darlington, S.C. chose L11 and Davidson Farms, Duncan, S.C. chose L47, both tremendously thick sons of 602C.
The top Charolais bull, K38, sold to Compton Charolais, Nanafalia, Ala. for $3,700. He was a son of RC Budsmydad and the NF Vedvee E516 donor cow. A full brother to him, L164, was the 2nd high Charolais at $3,000 and sold to Grandview Farms in Amherst, Va.
Volume buyer was Creek Plantation, Martin, S.C. who selected 11 bulls to use in their program. Also buying three or more bulls were Jerry Yonce, Aiken, S.C. and Flying W Cattle Company, Sumterville, Fla.
Over 45 percent of the bulls sold to repeat buyers from the Yon performance program. Bulls were affordable throughout the sale with over 70 percent of the bulls selling for $2,500 or less, with the vast majority of the bulls being sold to progressive commercial cattlemen for use in their programs.
As an added attraction to the sale, the Yon's also sponsored their Open House, offering special deals on Powder River equipment, Apache Feeding Equipment, and Stafix Fencing, feed, minerals, and animal health products.
The sale is held annually on the third Saturday in February in Ridge Spring. You may contact the Yons to be added to their mailing list at kyon@ pbtcomm.net or (803)685-5048.
