Talmo, Ga.
Talmo Ranch sale hosts, Wayne and Jill Miller's welcome letter read, "To enhance your breeding program you must come back to the Source," and come back they did. Talmo Ranch and guest consignors Ard Ridge Cattle Co., Circle E/CK Chiangus, Chi-G Farms, Pass Cattle Co., RSE Farms, Inc. and Wilstem Guest Ranch presented a superb offering of Chiangus and Chiangus influenced cattle. A capacity crowd from 11 states saw 47 quality lots gross $166,750 for an average of $3,547 reflecting the top-notch cattle available throughout the sale.
Kicking off the offering was Lot 1, TR Flash of Talmo PCA, a son of CJB Flash PCA out of MGM Ms Poll Pwr 619E 2CA. With an impressive adj. weaning weight of 916 lbs and a National Chiangus Show Res. Div. Championship to boot, this powerful herd sire prospect commanded a winning bid of $9,000 from Swafford Chiangus of Pikeville, Tenn. for 1/2 interest.
Wayne and Jill Miller always have something up their sleeve to make each Source unique. This year was no exception. The bidding on Lot 26, TR Ms Magic PCA was preceded by tricks from a magician as fanfare to celebrate this first progeny of PCC Flash Magic PCA to ever be offered at public auction. Ms Magic cast her own spell as Dale Overstreet of Oakwood, Ga. gave $9,500 for 1/2 interest in the future breed great.
TR Ms Lucy 598 1CA had her own circle of friends and when the dust settled Southern Light Farms and VBS Farms teamed up to give $12,000 for the October 2001 heifer calf. The top-selling pair honors at a total of $10,000 went to Lot 12, Ankony Blackcap Lucy and 12A, her November heifer calf by RDCA Mr Impulse 319J 2CA. Mitch Mitchell and Tyler Minish from Georgia swept the ring with both the cow and heifer commanding $5,000 each.
Pass Cattle Co. of Strawn, Texas added another one to their "Home of Champions" as Lot 21, P Bar C Miss Total PCA, a daughter of the breed great, BC Total Power 2CA, left the sale ring with a new value of $8,500.
Circle E/CK Chiangus made a statement with their consignments. Lot 31, CK Eurotia 429K 2CA and her calf drew their spot in the limelight as Talmo Ranch and Wilstem Guest Ranch made the winning team at $7,000 for the pair. Following closely behind was Lot 33, CK Teela 126F 1CA and her Flash bull calf. Ard Ridge Cattle Co., Foster Bros. Farms and Pass Cattle Co. joined forces to put this pair to work in their programs at $6,600. Another Circle E bred cow owned by Wilstem Guest Ranch made her mark at the Source Sale as well. A flush was offered out CEF Miss Touchstone 466G, dam of WRL My Sweetheart 5L 2CA, the $14, 500 high-selling open heifer at the 2001 National Sale. Foster Bros. Bid $6,000 for the right to flush her.
Pass Cattle Co. also seized the opportunity to own a daughter of the great CJB Flash PCA out of Sweet Suthrn GPJ 212B PCA. The February 21, 2002 calf brought $5,000. Several lots throughout the fast-paced sale brought in the $3,000 to $4,000 range.
