Knoxville, Tenn.
Cool wet weather greeted the consignors and buyers in Knoxville for this second annual co-sponsored Gelbvieh event. With the sale lots having been selected on-farm by Mettler Sale Management, the offering was exceptional and the buyers from nine states showed their approval.
Topping the sale at $4,300 was a cow/calf pair consigned by Mooreland Farms from New Market, Va. Sunview Farms, Doug & Carol Distler from Russellville, Mo. laid claim to MLD Mooreland MARA H805 (sired by Extra) and her Carolina Primetime heifer calf. This exceptional pair is certain to be an income generator for years to come.
Following closely at $4,200 was a pair that was split in the ring as lots 49/49A. Little Windy Hill Farm, Doug Hughes from Max Meadows, Va. once again put their best foot forward by offering a tremendous pair. The cow, sired by Carolina Primetime sold for $2,600 to MJ Powell, JR. from Seneca, S.C. and her 1/30/02 heifer calf sired by KCF Bennett Bonus F95 found a home at A&C Gelbvieh, S.D. for $1,600.
Making an argument for high selling “family” was the lot 56/56A and lot 14 offered by Karlebo Gelbvieh, Robert Dyson from Cleveland, N.C. The “56” pair, the dam being sired by Extra and the bull calf at side sired by KLBF Blackjack 352G “Max” earned a final bid of $3,200 from the 88 Ranch, Craig and Valerie Livingston from Orchard, NE (long time supporters of Karlebo quality genetics). The 10/16/01 Open daughter of lot 56 sold as lot 14 and was a full sib to lot 56's bull calf at side sold for $1,800 to Michael Hitch from Brooksville, Ky.
Finding several friends was lot 44/44A consigned by Duck River Gelbvieh, Michael Bates from Duck River, Tenn. This fabulous first calf heifer once again highlighted the popularity of SLF Freedom progeny. With a three-day-old JRI PLD Free Agent bull calf at side, MDBG Freedoms Showgirl was purchased by Dyer Farms, Brian Dyer from Burkesville, Ky., for $3,600. This certainly was an outstanding pair!
