On Saturday, February 15th, the 49 bulls sold in the 33rd Clemson Bull Test Sale brought $79,200 - an average of $1,616.33 per bull. MPAC Angus' 33 senior Angus bull topped the sale when Sunset Farm - Ed and Grace Satcher - from Ridge Spring, S.C. paid $3,500 for him.
The second high selling bull at $3,000 was Pleasant Oak Farm's 62 senior Gelbvieh bull purchased by Joey Greene from Jackson, S.C. The third high seller was Paul Boyd Angus' 12 junior Angus bull at $2,600 going to Wes Woodard at Darlington, S.C. Seven cattlemen purchased two bulls. Buyers were from 3 states – South Carolina (46 bulls), North Carolina (2 bulls) and Georgia (1 bull). On Tuesday before the sale, the 49 bulls averaged 446 days old, 53.2 inches tall, 6.2 frame score, 1,394 lbs, 3.13 lbs/day WDA and 37.1 cm scrotal circumference.
In the 21st Clemson Replacement Heifer Sale, 10 pens with 28 crossbred heifers brought $20,175 - an average of $720.54 per heifer. Three pens of heifers brought $775 per head to tie for top selling honors. Gill Starr Farm's pen six heifers were purchased by Mayfield Farms at Gaffney, S.C. Osborn Farm at Watkinsville, Ga. purchased Gill Starr's pen eight heifers. Mark Onufer's pen nine heifers were purchased by Dogwood Farm at Bostic, N.C. Volume buyer was Osborn Farm who purchased four pens with 12 heifers. Average pelvic area and weight were 177.4 cm2 and 932 lbs, respectively.
