The Tennessee and Virginia Gelbvieh Associations joined forces once again to host a successful open-to-the-world consignment sale. Producers from 11 states brought 70 lots to Knoxville. Cattle sold to 12 states. A special feature was also the dispersal of RiverView Farms of Mooers, N.Y. The top selling RiverView Farms lot sold for $2,700. This FHG Flying H Extra 150D daughter sold safe to Carolina Fortune. She makes her new home in Vine Grove, Ky., with Kenny Muse.

Middle Creek Farm of Bozeman, Mont., had top selling lot at $7,600. MCFG Ms Ebony 26P ET is a homozygous black Flying H Exclusive daughter out of Middle Creek's donor female, MCFG Cocoa's Kati 258H. Ms Ebony sold safe in calf to SPUR Kings Ransome 901J ET. Hedges SS Gelbvieh of Pleasanton, Kan., was to winning bidder.

Pleasant Meadows Farm of Glasgow, Ky., earned the second high-seller slot with their bred heifer, MRND Tamara Ashley 23P. This JRI Extra Exposure daughter sold safe in calf to 2005 National Champion Bull, JRI Heavy Equipment. Register Farms of Clinton, N.C., bid $3,600 for this tremendous red female.

Topping the mature cow offering was a lot from Middle Creek Farms. Ken Flikkema offered at auction his proven matriarch donor female, MCFG Cocoa's Kati 258H. Larry Brandon of Murfreesboro, Tenn., took advantage of this genetic opportunity and bid $3,650 to own the donor female.

Floyd Farms of Waynesboro, Ga., consigned the top selling open heifer. This November 2004 homozygous black female sold for $3,400 to Middle Creek Farms.

Mettler Gelbvieh of Canton, S.D., had the high selling cow-calf pair with Lot 24/24A. The JNS Mr Image 6E daughter found a home with new Gelbvieh breeder David Watters of Church Hill, Md., for $1,900. Less than one month after this sale, Mr. Watters passed away, but his son and widow plan to continue building their Gelbvieh herd. Carrie Ann Tilghman of Glasgow, Ky., bid $1,800 for the Lot 24A heifer calf. This VRT Lazy TV Beethoven daughter should be competitive next summer.

Other top lots:

Lot 17: $3,400—A homozygous black, homozygous polled herd sire prospect out of XXB Drew consigned by Gooseponds Farms of Tennessee and sold to JH Farms of Bowling Green, Ky.

Lot 6/6A: $3,200—A SPUR Kings Ransome cow with a JBOB 5003N calf at side consigned by J&K Gelbvieh of Illinois sold to J Bar M Gelbvieh of Missouri.

Lot 26/26A: $3,000—An SLC Freedom dam with a calf by GCGF Crescent Moon. The cow sold safe in calf to DDM Mr. Sherman Tank. Consigned by Goose Creek Gelbvieh and sold to David Watters of Maryland.
